Journal Writing Prompt: Peace

Posted by: dee | Comments (0)

“There is no need to go to India or anywhere else to find peace. You will find that deep place of silence right in your room, your garden or even your bathtub.”

~Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

In your journal, write about today’s quote.? Do you have a place of peace where you are?? If so, describe it and write about how it came to be.? If not, consider why you don’t have one, what your place of peace may look like, and commit yourself to creating one soon.

Journal writing prompt bonus:? What do you think Elisabeth may have meant when she said

“You will find that deep place of silence right in your room, your garden or even your bathtub.”

Do you think she means that you carry it with you all the time?? Do you agree?? Do you think she meant an actual physical place?? What does that “deep place of silence” mean to you?? What does it imply?

Journal Writing Prompt: Habits

Posted by: dee | Comments (0)

“We are what we repeatedly do; Excellence, then, is not an act, but, a habit.”

~Aristotle

In your journal, consider today’s quote. Look at each piece of the quote.

“We are what we repeatedly do” – do you agree or disagree with that statement? Why?

“Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” – Is excellence an act? Is it a habit? What are your views on excellence?

Journal writing prompt bonus: (Introspection Alert!) Examine your own life – not just today, but, look back over the past few years. What habits do you have? How did they develop? Is excellence a habit you have or an act you perform? What’s the difference? Compare and contrast your habits with “excellence”. What are the similarities? Differences?

Journal Writing Prompt: Trees

Posted by: dee | Comments (0)

“The trees that are slow to grow bear the best fruit.”

~Moliere

Bamboo TreeI bought a tree this past spring. It sits by my bedside, and reminds me of this very quote. You might be wondering how I could have bought a tree that sits by my bedside (no, I don’t have vaulted ceilings!). I’ll tell you the secret – it’s a bamboo tree. It’s a whopping 9″ tall, and has probably only grown 1 or 2 inches since I bought it more than 6 months ago (and survived a thorough mauling by an irritated border collie).

This tree reminds me, every day that sometimes it takes a long time to bear the best fruit. This tree has an incredible root system already, but, I’ve occassionally looked at it and wondered if it’s actually growing because it’s growing at such a slow rate!
In your journal, think about today’s quote….do you agree? Do you think this is something that you should keep in mind as you go through your day? Or, do you think it’s utter nonsense and of no consequence? Why or why not?

Daily Journal writing prompt bonus: Do you see your life as a tree that is quick to bear fruit or slow to grow and bear fruit? Why or why not? How? – give an example from your life to illustrate your answer.

Journal Writing Prompt: Persistence

Posted by: dee | Comments (0)

“We are made to persist. That’s how we find out who we are.”

~ Tobias Wolff

In your journal, consider today’s quote.? Do you agree that we are made to persist?? Do you think that persistence helps you find out? who you are?? Wgy or why not?
Journal writing prompt bonus:? Think back to a time when you persisted despite “everyone” telling you that it was useless and you should give up.? Write about this time, and consider this – did that instance of persistence tell you something about who you are?? What did it tell you?? How has that knowledge of yourself helped you since that time?

If you have had a time in your life when you didn’t persist (and possibly wish you would have), what did that tell you about yourself?? How did that knowledge change your actions now?

Just like the art of journaling, the art of health is another art that plays an important role in my life and the life of my company.

Recently, I happened upon a conversation regarding the worth of using essential oils to achieve holistic healing, rather than relying on pharmokopeia (mind you, we are talking therapeutic grade, properly distilled from organic sources, properly processed, and properly packaged – these comments do *not* apply to essential oils of lesser quality – to that end, I suggest that you know about the essential oils you use or plan to use and make sure you are getting the best available!). The comment was made that this person hadn’t experienced any “miraculous healings” from the use of particular essential oils. While I have seen many incredible results from using essential oils, I replied with the following:

(important disclaimer: The information in this article is not meant to diagnose, prescribe, or substitute for professional medical assistance – (remember, I am a holistic health coach, NOT an allopathic medical doctor). It is provided as information only for your better understanding of holistic health. In case of medical need, please consult the appropriate professional for your situation.)

Now, what I’m about to say may anger some people, but, I think it’s important for this to be said. The oils, while truly amazing, may not heal everything.

The art of journaling

Posted by: dee | Comments (0)

One major aspect of my life and my companies is the importance we place on journaling. I find it deeply important to journal reguarly – whether you are a writer or not! I’ve had people ask me why I find journaling to be so important, and I thought it was worth writing about.

Now, I will admit that I have a bias about journalling. I’ve journalled as long as I can remember with only very short periods of hiatus. However, I know, without a doubt, that it has made my life richer and helped me see the meaning and path of my life.

There are many reasons that journalling should play an important role in your life. And, yes, it is an “art” – the art of journalling, however, requires no special tools or prior experience. The art of journaling can be “picked up” with a pencil and a scrap of paper (although I don’t recommend writing on scraps of paper – for good reason – more on that in a moment!)

The art of journalling – simplified:

Here are just a few examples of why the art of journalling is a good practice in your daily life:

Journal Writing Prompt: Independence

Posted by: dee | Comments (0)

“We allow our ignorance to prevail upon us and make us think we can survive alone, alone in patches, alone in groups, alone in races, even alone in genders.”

~Maya Angelou

In your journal, write about today’s quote. Do you agree or disagree? Why? Also, consider this, if you agree, is it truly ignorance that separates us and makes us believe that we must be “independent” from everyone else? Or is it something deeper? Is it (possibly) a cultural lie that we buy into? Is that the same as ignorance? Different?

Daily journal writing prompt bonus: Do you find your life fuller and richer when you are a part of a group – leaning on another (and allowing others to lean on you), helping others (and, of course, allowing them to help you)? Or, are you determined to be “independent”? Explain.

Happy Journaling!

(Are you wondering why journaling is important? Wondering why most of our prompts are “deep”? Pull up a chair, grab a cup of coffee (organic, of course) or tea and check out my new piece on the art of journaling)

Journal Writing Prompt: Courage

Posted by: dee | Comments (0)

“You have to accept whatever comes, and the only important thing is that you meet it with courage and with the best that you have to give.”

~Eleanor Roosevelt

In your journal, write a response to today’s quote. Is meeting whatever comes with courage and your very best the only important thing? If so, expand on that thought. If not, what other things do you think are important when meeting whatever may come your way.

Daily Journal Writing Prompt Bonus: How do you define “courage”? Do you see yourself as courageous? Why or why not? If you could leave a definition of courage for future generations, what would it be? Who has it? Who could have it? Why?

Journal Writing Prompt: Sickness & Health

Posted by: dee | Comments (0)

“It’s no longer a question of staying healthy. It’s a question of finding a sickness you like.”

~Jackie Mason

At first glance, this quote is somewhat funny, however, once it settles in, the “funny” quickly wears off, and the truth of the? statement may overwhelm you.? In today’s world, there? is an awful lot of sickness – it seems, many days, there is more sickness (in various forms – mentally, physically, and spiritually) than there is health.? Where health used to be the norm, it seems the pendulum has swung the complete opposite direction to health being the “exception to the rule”.

In your journal, consider what Jackie Mason said. ? Do you? believe this is just? a comic comment or do you think there? is a greater truth underneath?? Explain & explore your answer in your journal.

Journal writing prompt bonus:? Take a look at your own health – mentally, spiritually, and physically.? Do you see more sickness in you than health?? In your journal, consider this, and if your health is not where it could be, consider what you could do? to move? it in the right? direction.

Journal Writing Prompt: Do you believe?

Posted by: dee | Comments (0)

“Nobody will believe in you unless you believe in yourself.”

~Liberace

I often talk to people who desperately want others to believe in them, while I will talk with others who are confident that people believe in them.? The biggest difference that I’ve found in these two groups of people is succintly expressed in today’s quote.

So, today’s journal writing prompt is actually twofold:? Do you agree or disagree with today’s quote?? Is it possible for others to believe in you without you first believing in yourself?? Do you? believe in yourself?? Why or why not?
Journal writing prompt bonus:? As you know, this is where I urge you to go below the surface and dig deep.? Today is no exception.? From experience, I have seen that most people who truly believe in themselves and are able to compel others, are people who have a much deeper connection spiritually.? There are, of course, frauds who can convince others to believe in themselves with no spiritual connect, but, I’m talking about a genuine belief in oneself.? If you believe in yourself, where does that belief come from?? And, if you don’t, ponder why that could be the case.? Write about this in your journal.

Happy journaling!
